The saturation of current transformer can be divided into two types: one is saturation (steady saturation) caused by large capacity short circuit steady symmetric current, and another is saturation (transient saturation) caused by the non periodic component and the remanence of the core in the short circuit current.
Steady saturation: when the two electromotive force of the current transformer passes through the steady state symmetric short circuit, the core of the transformer will begin to saturate. The two current characteristic under this saturation condition is that the distorted two current is pulse shape. The positive and negative half wave is roughly symmetrical. For the protection of the current value, such as overcurrent protection and impedance protection, the saturation will reduce the sensitivity. For the differential protection, the difference current depends on the difference of the saturation waiting for the two sides of the transformer.
Transient saturation: short circuit current usually contains non periodic components. This will seriously deteriorate the transmission characteristics of the current transformer. The reason is that the excitation characteristics of the current transformer are based on the work
In frequency design, the core flux (exciting current) needs to be greatly increased when transmitting the non periodic component with very low equivalent frequency. The two current waveform is asymmetric when the transformer's aperiodic component causes saturation of the transformer, and the saturation time begins to be longer. But when the core has remanence, it will aggravate the saturation degree and shorten the beginning saturation time.
