The working principle of current transformer

In the power generation, substation, transmission, distribution and power lines, the current is very large, from a few to a few kilometers. In order to facilitate measurement, protection and control, it is necessary to convert to a more uniform current, and the voltage on the line is generally higher, such as direct measurement is very dangerous. The current transformer plays the role of current transformation and electrical isolation [1].

For a pointer type ammeter, most of the two current of the current transformer is at the ampere level (such as 5A, etc.). For digital instruments, the sampling signals are generally Ma level (0-5V, 4-20mA, etc.). The two current of micro current transformer is Ma level, which mainly acts as bridge between large transformer and sampling.

Micro current transformers are also referred to as "instrument current transformers"". (instrument current transformer) has the meaning of the multi current precision current transformer used in the laboratory. It is generally used to expand the measuring range of the instrument

The current transformer is similar to the transformer, and also works according to the principle of electromagnetic induction. The transformer transforms the voltage, while the current transformer transforms the current. The current transformer is connected with the measured current (turns to N1), is called the primary winding (or primary winding, primary winding); measuring instruments connected winding (turns to N2) is called the two windings (or secondary winding and secondary winding).

The current ratio of primary winding current I1 of current transformer and I2 of two winding is called actual current ratio K. The current ratio of current transformer working under rated current is called rated current ratio of current transformer, which is expressed by Kn.

Kn=I1n/I2n

The function of Current transformer (CT) is to convert the larger primary current into a smaller two current through a certain ratio, which is used for protection, measurement and other purposes. If the current transformer is 400/5, the current of 400A can be converted to 5A current.
