In practical applications, what test methods can be used to detect the saturation point of current transformers?
The direct method of determination is the actual load on the two side, that is, the current transformer is connected to the current transformer from the one side and the saturation point of the current transformer is found by the observation of the two current. However, as the saturation point of the protective current transformer may exceed 15~20 times the rated current, the test method is not suitable when the current transformer becomes larger.
For this reason, the saturation point of the current transformer can also be measured by volt ampere characteristic test, because the saturation of current transformer is caused by the excessive flux density of the core. Therefore, the saturation point of the current transformer can be detected as long as the original side opens the circuit, and the voltage drop on the side winding is measured from the side side current.
